Sleep is an essential part of our daily routine and adults are encouraged to have at least 7 – 9 hours of sleep. In fact, research shows that it’s not only how much sleep we get that affects our ability to function, but also the time we sleep. This is why sleep therapy is so important for those who struggle with falling into a deep sleep or staying asleep.

You may think that once your head hits the pillow and your close your eyes – slowly drifting off to the land of dreams, that your body is done for the day. This couldn’t be further from the truth! As soon as we fall into a deep sleep, our body starts the process of healing and repair. This allows all of our organs to process the day’s activities and prepare for another day of keeping your body functioning properly.

For example, people who consistently go to bed late are depriving the body of much needed rest and repair time, which means when they wake up their body’s sympathetic nervous system goes into overdrive, so they become irritable and anxious. This puts a lot more pressure on the heart and after years of doing this, it can cause high blood pressure, strokes or heart attacks.

This is why I can’t stress enough how important sleep is and if you’re struggling to sleep it is in your best interest to explore natural sleep remedies, like sleep hypnotherapy.

Today, I just want to share the key benefits of hypnotherapy on sleep. I will also explain the process of hypnotherapy and why it is so successful for those who are struggling with sleep.

As I’ve shared before, hypnotherapy is a way to tap into your subconscious mind and replace any stressful or negative thoughts with more helpful and positive thoughts. Here are some of the key benefits of using hypnotherapy for sleep issues –

  • Promotes a deeper sense of relaxation and peace in the mind
  • Helps to calm racing thoughts that flow through the mind
  • Addresses sleepwalking, nightmares, insomnia and sleep talking
  • Helps to create a positive bedtime routine
  • Increases focus and attention span as it mutes the small chatter of the monkey mind

So how does hypnotherapy work as a natural sleep remedy?

A lot of people are surprised when I explain that my hypnotherapy sessions are nothing like the comical sessions you see on TV. It is not a stage show or a swinging pendulum and it is not like in the movies someone taken back in time to remember painful events or crimes.

Simply put, hypnotherapy allows you to tap into your subconscious mind by falling into a natural trance like state whilst still being in control of your own body. It’s just a very deep state of relaxation that welcomes the positive, mind changing suggestions created by a qualified hypnotherapist to specifically address the issue that is worrying you.

When you silence the monkey mind, you are able to listen to what is truly troubling you, which is affecting your ability to fall asleep and stay in a deep sleep. This means the suggestions that you are talked through whilst in such a relaxed state, allows you to gradually change your mindset. Studies have shown that we are more receptive to change when we are more relaxed, which supports the idea of hypnotherapy being a natural sleep remedy.

Affirmations like, “you are safe”, “you are healthy and well”, “sleep is easy, effortless and natural” and “you are letting go of the past and sleeping deeply” etc are repeated in a carefully planned script which help retrain the mind to think differently. When it comes to sleep therapy, the script can directly target the issues that are stopping a person from sleeping in order to promote a healthy night’s sleep.

There are a few steps that I follow as a qualified hypnotherapist Dubai and online–

  • Informed consent – I always talk my clients through the process so they know exactly what to expect and can ask any questions they may have. Once they agree we can start.
  • Visualization – After clients agree to the process, I start off by bringing their attention to all parts of their body – this works as a double-edged task as it helps to focus the mind but also encourages clients to relax into the position of their choice.
  • Focusing deeper – I then encourage clients to focus even deeper by thinking about specifics of the things they find calming or peaceful. What is it about these things that they love so much?
  • Helpful suggestions – When clients are totally relaxed and in a trance like state, I begin to share suggestions that target the situations they are trying to heal from or overcome.
  • Bringing awareness back – Lastly, I start to bring the client’s awareness back to where they are and give them a countdown to bring them gently however for sleep it is slightly different because I then send them into a deep sleep. For other hypnotherapies I encourage people to take their time and to adjust coming back to their conscious mind.

There are many studies that have been carried out to measure the impact of hypnotherapy on sleep worries and research shows that hypnotherapy has clear proven benefits on sleep. It helps you to sleep better and deeper – allowing the body to rest and repair as needed to function effectively.
